A Short History of the Woodbridge Communities In the early 1970’s the town of Kings Mountain received a federal grant to buy county land to flood for a city water reservoir, which would also be a recreational lake. Moss Lake was named after John Henry Moss, the mayor of Kings Mountain who applied for the grant and carried out the reservoir project. The lake was created by damming Buffalo Creek and allowing the lake to fill, becoming fully flooded in late fall 1973. A large area on the southeast side of the lake was purchased by Jim Hamrick of Shelby to develop as a residential area and golf course. Lots went on sale in early 1972 with underground wiring and restrictive deeds to maintain the quality of residences in the Woodbridge communities. As the communities developed Mr. Hamrick constructed a social club with a pool, tennis courts and clubhouse to complement the golf course. Mr. Hamrick has since sold his interests in the community, golf course and social club. All of the lots in the Woodbridge communities are sold and there are over 300 owners of the total lots, with over 270 homes. The golf course continues to be a local and regional attraction and the social club is undergoing a renovation (2006/2007). Both are privately owned and operated. There are 476 lots in the five communities of Woodbridge: Woodbridge, Woodbridge North, South, East and West. Every lot that has deed restrictions and all owners are advised of the restrictions and by-laws prior to their purchase. The restrictions and by-laws are available on this website for reading of printing. ………….a little information from these documents Every lot has an easement on the road in front of the property for eclectic and telephone lines, water, gas, cable TV and sewer (future). All lot and homeowners automatically become members of the Woodbridge Association and each lot is charged homeowner dues of $55.00 ($36 in 1972). Entrances, common and natural areas are maintained by the association. All operational costs of the association are paid for from dues. Homes have minimum square footage requirement depending on single or multi-level construction and building plans require approval of the Environmental Committee. The Association is governed by a Board of Directors chosen from members of the Association by a nominating committee of the current board. There is an annual meeting the second Monday of March each year. At this meeting any election of board members and business presented to the members is discussed and voted on. Notice of the annual meeting will be sent to each association member in February and each member is encouraged to attend and participate, as this is an important part of association membership. Board members currently serve in one of these responsibilities: Environmental, Treasurer, Social Activities and Hospitality, Maintenance, Secretary, Vice-President and President. The board meets on a monthly schedule, generally the first Monday in the month. The Board is only empowered to enforce restrictions and by-laws. It cannot settle disputes between property owners not covered in the restrictions and by-laws. The Board can and does on occasion use its legal authority to enforce a restriction or collect back payments of dues, but this is a rare occurrence. The Board of Directors and members of committees serving at the direction of the Board are all volunteer positions. Many in our communities have served over the years and volunteering to serve is welcomed.
